TRUE TO FORM
Making sure your shoes stay in shape

While cleaning and polishing are essential to caring for your Church’s shoes, maintaining shape and leather integrity are just as important.

Shoe trees are meant to preserve the original shape of a shoe by straightening out the insole. The scented cedar absorbs excess moisture that would otherwise cause the leather to stiffen and possibly crack and prevents creases from forming while eliminating odours as well. Ideally, they should be inserted within 1-2 hours after taking shoes off and can also be used to ensure the even application of creams and waxes.

Our offering ranges from the Wessex for both men’s and women’s classic styles to the expandable Suffolk that is ideal for larger models. The Sussex shoe trees, also expandable, are recommended for high-laced and Chelsea boots.

An obsession with shoe care is generally widespread among the modern-day gentleman and for good reason – shoes are quite literally at the foundation of your look, an element that reflects your style, keeps you grounded and protects you. Protecting them, whether for practical or aesthetic reasons, is fundamental, as are the products you use to do so.

SHEEN OBSESSION
An unusual penchant for polish

Although shoe polish has existed since medieval times, the penchant for a high glossy finish on leather first arose in the 18th century. Since then, this eye-catching sheen – synonymous with refinement and elegance – has become a veritable obsession amongst enthusiasts and everyday wearers alike.

In addition to keeping shoes looking brand new, wax also serves a more protective role, nourishing the leather and safeguarding it from daily wear and tear as well as scuffs.

Church’s polish waxes, which can be used alone or on top of a shoe cream, come in black, brown, burgundy, tobacco and neutral – the latter can also be used simply to add shine. The waxes are tested on leathers in the factory.

The shine and cleanliness of a shoe is only as good as the brushes you use, so owning the right kinds and of top quality is key.

We offer three different types of brushes to clean plain leather shoes, all made with beech wood and horsehair – a material chosen for its exceptional strength and versatility. Horsehair bristles are soft and dense, maintaining their thickness and effectiveness over time and offering a truly remarkable shine. They come in black for black shoes and grey for all other colours.

The small brush is used to apply the polish to the upper while the applicator brush is ideal for getting into tighter spaces such as between the welt and upper or where there is brogue detailing. The large brush serves to remove any excess polish, creating a high shine.

The crepe suede brush features a natural rubber comb that gently removes non-oily stains, dirt and dust from suede while buffing the fibres at the same time.

The Valet Box is our most complete shoe care kit, which includes all of the brushes mentioned above alongside everything else you need to keep your Church’s shoes looking brand new.

The use of polish to soften and waterproof footwear dates back to medieval times though the penchant for a high shine came about in the 18th century. To this day, such practices remain an essential part of maintaining luxury footwear.

Leather, even of the highest quality, will begin to show signs of wear and tear over time. Specialised shoe creams serve to clean, nourish and rejuvenate leather, buffing them to a moderate shine and keeping them looking like new for long periods of time.

As creams tend to penetrate the leather and therefore enhance and affect its colour, choosing the right tint is crucial. Church’s creams come in black, brown, burgundy, tobacco and neutral – the latter can also be used simply to add shine. The creams are tested on our leathers in the factory.

To ensure that the cream is applied evenly throughout, you can insert a shoe tree before cleaning.
